THE FACTS:
Pete Best was born on November 24, 1941 in Madras, India, but
grew up in Liverpool England. In his teen years, he met John Lennon, Paul
McCartney, George Harrison, and Stu Sutcliffe and they formed a rock group
first called The Quarry Men, and eventually The Beatles. The group made a
bit of a name for itself playing clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg, Germany
before Stu left of his own accord. Brian Epstein caught wind of the band
and signed on as manager.
On August 16, 1962, Epstein informed Best, "The boys want you out of the
group. They don't think you're a good enough drummer." He was immediately
replaced by Ringo Starr. The Beatles went on to become the most successful
and influential rock band of all time. Pete Best did not.
THE FICTION:
capnwacky.com is proud to collect this series of fictional
works about this inspiring figure from pop-culture history. While the
internet is full of fan-fiction starring characters from space-faring
epics and schools of wizards, it has been sadly lacking in any works in
the honor of rejected pop percussionists... until now.
In the coming weeks, we'll be bringing these works to you, a couple at a time. To begin, just click the links to the left and research what we call The Pete Best Project.
